10th St. at Rest

January 22nd, 2009 by

So, this is sort of unprecedented here, hopefully nobody objects…

I didn’t have time to work on a Hella Gem these past couple of weeks because I was spending that time working on a short film for something called Campus Moviefest, where they give you some equipment, a Macbook and less than a week to turn in a finished film. I honestly had no idea what I was going to do and my prospective teammates bailed on me, so I went down 10th Street here in Atlanta at 3am last Sunday and shot some footage, hoping to find some sort of thread to tie it together. This film is the result:

10th St. at Rest

I’d really recommend going to YouTube and watching it in HD if your bandwidth permits, since by design most of the shots are long shots. I was actually going to put some music to it when it was finished but decided that the incidental sounds picked up by the camera were much more interesting.

Next time a real song of some sort…

Interesting. Good luck on your entry. Maybe you could do some sort of David Lynch thing about the ambiguous and difficult-to-understand evil that goes on in the urban nightime- the dark side of life that we are all blissfully unaware of that also has deep wooshing noises and creepy smooth jazz.

I love this! It’s so deserted. It’s funny because I think that nighttime has a bad rap from the media, like where are all the drug dealers and bums? It’s crazy how empty it is, except for the loan drunk driver that stopped way after the intersection, then decided to go after the light turned red, it seemed a bit awkward. for whatever reason I’m way entertained by this. I kinda want to see every major city at 3am. Good work!
